Food: Guilty Pleasures

Creating a healthy lifestyle includes a balance of physical exercise and good-for-you foods. That's not to say we don't love an indulgence. After all, that is part of the balance. To keep our minds and cravings in check, we practice the 80/20 rule - where we eat clean 80% of the time, and have the freedom to indulge 20% of the time. According to PopSugar, "When you practice 80/20, you have the space to go out socially and enjoy a meal (or a cocktail!) with friends, but most importantly, it makes the whole clean-living thing feel doable for the long run." We caught up with our ambassadors to find out what healthy foods they love during the 80... and what guilty pleasure foods they enjoy during the 20. Kathryn Budig: My favorite healthy food is a trio of juice shots I’ve been making at home. One is green based, the second red and the third yellow. They’re fun to create, beautiful, and give me a major boost of energy.
"Pasta is and will always be my favorite guilty pleasure food, although I don’t ever feel guilty eating it"
Amy Ippoliti: My favorite healthy food is my Alkalizing Green Coconut Libation that I whipped up in the kitchen one time while I was doing an alkaline cleanse - it has turned out to be one of my favorite staples now! http://www.amyippoliti.com/2012/07/a-milk-shake-you-can-be-proud-of-my-alkalizing-green-coconut-libation/
My guilty pleasure food is the Mint Sundae at Pure Food and Wine in New York City and Flourless Chocolate Lava Cake at fine restaurants. Just uttering those words makes me salivate…
YogaSlackers: Raquel- My healthy pleasure is a fresh leafy green salad. Tossed with strawberries, blueberries, candied pecans and blue cheese. Add a little bit of balsamic vinegar for extra yumminess! Something I wish I could eat every single day.
But most likely I would indulge in my guilty pleasure: Ben n' Jerry Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream. Although I just end up fishing for the peanut butter cups and passing the ice cream to Sam. Life is too short to miss out on those little bites of heaven.
Sam- I would have to say that my healthy pleasure is French Fries. Maybe more of a guilty pleasure by normal standards.
For me, French Fries and Ice Cream are the basis of my balanced diet!
Chelsea- I just got a juice for my birthday so I am loving making up different juices! So far my favorite is beet, pear, carrot, cucumber, ginger, kale and a little pepper to add a zing! My other favorite is a salad with blueberries, rice crackers, bell peppers, hemp hearts and lime cilantro dressing! Jason- My favorite is fresh caught Alaskan salmon fish tacos with cilantro yogurt dressing and homemade tortillas
Both of our unhealthy pleasures would be lattes (mine hemp milk latte, and his whole milk) and homemade fudge brownies
Eric Orton: For me, nothing beats a big salad with the "kitchen sink" of veggies topped with some form of protein and a mega dose of avocado and olive oli. This gives me a great balance of clean carbs, protein and the fat I need. My favorite dinner type of salad right now is with Beets. My simple recipe is: roasted beets, grapefruit, Gorgonzola cheese, radish sprouts & toasted walnuts with Wagyu Skirt Steak From a performance and healthy perspective, I believe including fat in every meal is very important and I keep my carb intake to clean raw veggies/fruits. I perform really well with more fat and some day I hope we start to view fat as necessary for health and a little less emphasis on carbohydrates.
My guilty pleasure is definitely pizza and chocolate chip cookies.
